Sugar Reset Side Effects: What to Know Before You Start
The main Sugar Reset side effects to know come from a few blend ingredients.
Watch for low blood sugar if you also take glucose-lowering drugs, caffeine from guarana and green tea, grapefruit extract changing how other medications clear, and a licorice compound that can affect blood pressure. Xylitol is toxic to dogs.
Stop and call a clinician for shakiness, dark urine or a blood pressure change. See who should ask a doctor first.

Sugar Reset side effects: where to start
This page goes through the safety research we could find for the ingredients that carry a real flag, not just the parts of the label that make Sugar Reset sound safe. None of the 23 ingredients, chromium plus the 22-ingredient blend, has been tested as this exact combination, and the blend's amounts are not published, so risk cannot be sized precisely for most of them.
What the Sugar Reset label says about safety
“Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this [Sugar Reset] or any dietary supplement.”
That line, plus the boxed warning below it, is printed on the bottle. Everything else on this page adds detail behind it: which ingredient is behind which caution, and what the research actually found. This page may cover more cautions than others on this site, because Sugar Reset's blend touches more interaction categories than most single-ingredient supplements.
Hypoglycemia: the risk with glucose-lowering medicine
Why hypoglycemia is the top concern
Gymnema works through the same blood-sugar-lowering mechanism as diabetes medications. An EFSA risk assessment documents clinical cases of hypoglycemia when gymnema was combined with antidiabetic drugs, with some patients needing their medication dose reduced or discontinued (Marakis et al., 2018).
Chromium adds to the picture
Chromium has also been studied for glucose effects, though this label's 0.7 mcg is far below research doses (National Institutes of Health, 2024). Stacking any glucose-lowering ingredient with a prescribed medicine raises the same concern: blood sugar going lower than intended.
Talk to your clinician before starting Sugar Reset. RxList rates the interaction between gymnema and diabetes medication as “Moderate” and warns it can push blood sugar too low, recommending close monitoring with possible dose adjustment (RxList et al., 2024). Keep testing on your normal schedule and never stop or change prescribed medicine on your own.
Grapefruit extract and medicine interactions
Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) fruit extract is one of the 22 blend ingredients. Grapefruit is well documented for changing how the body clears many common prescription medicines, including some statins, blood pressure medicines and immune-suppressing drugs, by affecting an enzyme the gut uses to break them down. That can make a normal dose act like a much larger one.
The label does not say how much grapefruit extract is in one dropper, so the size of this effect cannot be measured from what is printed. If a pharmacist or a medicine's own label already warns against grapefruit, treat this product the same way.
Caffeine from guarana and green tea
Guarana seed extract and green tea leaf extract are both caffeine sources. Brewed green tea as a beverage has no significant reported safety concerns for most adults beyond its caffeine content (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), 2024), but this product is a concentrated extract blend, not a cup of tea, and the label prints no caffeine amount for either ingredient.
Combined with coffee, energy drinks or other caffeinated supplements, an unlisted caffeine source can add up to more than expected. Anyone sensitive to caffeine, or managing high blood pressure, insomnia or anxiety, should factor this in before adding two droppers a day.
Licorice compound: blood pressure and potassium
Monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, a licorice-derived compound, is one of the 22 blend ingredients. With regular use, licorice compounds are linked to raised blood pressure and lowered potassium. Anyone who already manages high blood pressure, heart rhythm issues, or takes a diuretic or blood pressure medicine should ask a clinician before daily use.
This is one of the flags called out on Sugar Reset ingredients, alongside caffeine and grapefruit.
Green tea extract and liver injury reports
Green tea leaf extract carries a separate caution beyond caffeine: liver injury. LiverTox documents more than 100 cases of clinically apparent liver injury attributed to green tea extract and its component EGCG, including instances of acute liver failure requiring transplantation or resulting in death. Injury is typically hepatocellular with jaundice, arises idiosyncratically, not clearly tied to dose, within about 1 to 6 months of starting use, and most patients recover within 1 to 2 months of stopping the product (LiverTox (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases), 2023).
The label does not say how much green tea extract is in this blend. Anyone with liver disease, or anyone who develops dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, unusual tiredness or stomach pain, should stop and see a doctor.
Coleus forskohlii: blood pressure and blood thinners
Coleus forskohlii root extract, another blend ingredient, is studied for effects on blood pressure and, in some people, blood thinning. It is commonly sold in weight-loss and metabolic blends. Combined with blood pressure medicine or a blood thinner such as warfarin, the combined effect is harder to predict, and the amount in this dropper is not published.
Anyone on blood pressure medicine, a blood thinner, or scheduled for surgery should mention this ingredient to their clinician ahead of time.
Xylitol and pets
Xylitol, one of the Other Ingredients, is toxic to dogs even in small amounts and can cause a rapid, dangerous drop in a dog's blood sugar. Keep the bottle capped and stored where pets cannot reach it, and call a vet immediately if a dog swallows any.

More on fit by situation: who Sugar Reset is for.
When to stop and call a clinician
Any of the following, whether or not you think it is related to Sugar Reset.
- Shakiness, sweating, confusion or unusual tiredness, which can signal low blood sugar
- Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or unexplained stomach pain (possible liver injury signs)
- A rise in blood pressure, a racing heart, or new swelling
- Muscle weakness or cramping, which can signal low potassium
- Any allergic reaction: rash, hives, swelling or trouble breathing
- Any symptom that worries you, even if it seems minor
This list runs longer than most pages on this site because the blend touches several interaction categories at once. Side effects: common questions
What are the side effects of Sugar Reset?
The main documented risks are hypoglycemia with glucose-lowering medicine, grapefruit's medicine interactions, caffeine from guarana and green tea, a licorice compound's effect on blood pressure and potassium, green tea extract's liver-injury reports, and coleus forskohlii's blood pressure and blood-thinner interactions.
Can Sugar Reset cause low blood sugar?
It can contribute to it. Gymnema and chromium may lower blood sugar, and combining that with insulin or diabetes medication can cause hypoglycemia. Ask your clinician first.
Does Sugar Reset interact with grapefruit-sensitive medicines?
It may. Grapefruit extract is one of the 22 blend ingredients, and grapefruit is well documented for changing how the body clears many prescription medicines.
Is there caffeine in Sugar Reset?
Yes, from guarana seed and green tea leaf extracts. The label prints no caffeine amount, so total intake from all sources should be considered.
Is the licorice compound in Sugar Reset dangerous?
With regular use, licorice compounds like monoammonium glycyrrhizinate are linked to raised blood pressure and lowered potassium. Ask a clinician if you already manage either.
Can green tea extract hurt the liver?
Concentrated green tea extract carries more than 100 reported cases of liver injury in the sources we checked. Stop and see a doctor for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or unusual tiredness.
Is Sugar Reset safe for dogs?
No. Xylitol, one of the Other Ingredients, is toxic to dogs. Store it somewhere pets cannot get to it.
Who should not take Sugar Reset?
Anyone pregnant, nursing, or under 18, and anyone with a known medical condition without a physician's OK. We would also add anyone on glucose-lowering medicine, blood thinners, or with liver disease.
